About EMDR Therapy
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a proven, evidence-based treatment designed to help individuals process and heal from trauma, anxiety, and other emotional challenges. Through the use of bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, sounds, or gentle tapping, EMDR helps the brain reprocess distressing memories and shift negative emotional responses. This powerful technique allows you to break free from past experiences that may be affecting your present emotional well-being, leading to a greater sense of peace and resilience.
How does EMDR Therapy Work
In an EMDR session, we’ll focus on specific memories or emotions that are troubling you. Using bilateral stimulation (the guided eye movements, sounds, or gentle tapping), I’ll help you process these memories in a way that reduces their emotional intensity. Over time, this allows you to shift your emotional responses and reframe the way you view past experiences, ultimately bringing relief and emotional balance. What's next Each session is tailored to your pace, and we’ll work together to make sure you feel comfortable throughout the process.
What to Expect in a Session
During our first session, we’ll discuss your goals for therapy and any relevant background information. I will explain how EMDR works and answer any questions you may have.
In each subsequent session, we’ll continue to focus on relevant background information and skills needed to maintain emotional balance throughout the EMDR process. Once emotional regulation skills are well established, we will begin to focus on a specific memory or issue that you’d like to address. As you relax and focus on the memory, we’ll use bilateral stimulation (eye movements, sounds, or tapping) to help process and reframe it. The process may feel challenging at times, but I’ll be there to guide you and ensure you feel supported every step of the way.
Sessions typically last 50 minutes, and as we progress, you’ll notice that your emotional responses to past events become less intense and more manageable.
